Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
ReadQuest is a reading platform used by students in Grades 1 to 12, their teachers, their parents and their schools. Because most of our users are children, we hold ourselves to a deliberately high standard. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices available to students, parents and schools.
1. Who we are
ReadQuest ("we", "us") provides the ReadQuest reading platform and this website at readquest.dev. A school, district or teacher may act as the account holder on behalf of its students; in that case the school decides what student data is entered into the platform and we process it on the school's instructions.
2. Information we collect
Account and profile information: name, email address, role (student, teacher, parent, school or district administrator), grade level, school and class affiliation, and an optional avatar.
Reading activity: the books a student opens, chapters completed, time spent reading, reading streak, points and badges earned.
Assessment and learning data: placement and benchmark results, quiz answers and scores, fluency recordings and their transcripts, written reflections, discussion posts, and vocabulary saved to a personal dictionary.
Technical information: the pages you visit, the device and browser you use, and basic log data used to keep the service secure and working.
3. Children's privacy
Accounts for students under 13 are created through a school, teacher or parent invitation rather than by the child themselves. We do not show advertising to students, we do not sell personal information, and we do not use student data for behavioural advertising or profiling.
Student records are visible only to the student, their linked parent or guardian, and the teachers and administrators of the school or district they belong to.
A parent or guardian may review their child's information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Teachers and school administrators can also request deletion of a student record. Requests can be made by emailing pelc.nkc@gmail.com or using the contact form on our home page, and we will respond within 30 days.
4. How we use information
To deliver the reading experience: matching students to books at the right level, scoring quizzes, awarding points and badges, and tracking growth over time.
To support teachers and schools: class, school and district reporting, reading-intervention alerts, and standards alignment.
To keep accounts and families informed: weekly parent digests and progress notifications that you can turn off in your account settings.
To operate the service: authentication, security, troubleshooting, and improving features. Some in-app assistance features send the relevant passage or question to our AI service providers to generate a response.
5. When we share information
With your school or district, when they are the account holder for your student account.
With service providers who host and operate the platform on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations.
When the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a child or another person.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Keeping information safe and how long we keep it
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access limited to the people who need it. Our access rules are enforced by the platform itself, per record and per role.
We keep student records for as long as the school, district or family maintains the account, and delete or de-identify them on request or when the account is closed.
7. Your choices and rights
You can request a copy of your information, ask for corrections, ask for deletion, or ask us to stop using your information for optional communications such as the weekly digest.
Parents and guardians can unlink a child from their account at any time. Teachers can remove assignments and content they created.
Submit any request to pelc.nkc@gmail.com or using the contact form on our home page. You can also ask your school administrator to raise it with us directly.
8. Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences, such as interface language, reading themes and font choices.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to how we handle student information, we will notify account holders and school administrators before the change takes effect.
10. Contact
ReadQuest is operated by Ekeng Etim, also known as David.
